During the 1940’s, Michell was the pioneer in the industrialization of Alpaca fiber, and by that time it was producing machine knitting and weaving yarns only. However, at the end the 40’s, Michell started noticing an increasing demand for hand knitting yarns, both in the domestic and international markets. Thus, Michell decided to start supplying this market niche and launched the Indiecita brand back in 1950, which became the first yarn made in pure Alpaca for hand knitters. Since then, the Indiecita yarn has been the reference and preferred hand knitting yarn by knitters in Peru and the world. Customer testimonies indicate the Indiecita quality was the first Alpaca yarn on the market exclusively for hand knitting and many of them started to knit with it, and thanks to the Indiecita quality, the Alpaca word was spread to the world of hand knitting. Today, after more than 60 years, the presentation and weight of the Indiecita has been updated, but it is still being produced with the finest baby alpaca. It is made in count in 4/9nm or also known as Double Knitting (DK), and is presented in 50g doughnut balls with the Indiecita labels. Each ball yields 113m.
